Human rights advocates across the world are calling for an independent investigation into the killing of veteran Al Jazeera reporter Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead in May as she covered a raid by Israeli soldiers in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian-American was wearing a protective vest clearly marked ‘PRESS’ when she was killed in what appears to be a targeted attack.
‘They killed her in cold blood,’ said Ali al-Samoudi, a colleague of Abu Akleh’s who was shot in the back during the same incident. He was filmed speaking from hospital as he received treatment.
