On 11 December 1948, the day after the UN agreed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN passed another momentous resolution, no. 194, calling for the right for Palestinians to return to their homes.
From May 1948 the Ashkenazi Jewish militia, the Haganah, attacked and depopulated 530 Palestinian cities and villages – a campaign of ethnic cleansing which saw at least 95 massacres, such as those in Dayr Yassin and Tantoura.
