Donors continued to fund and train guards in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Kahuzi-Biega National Park – in spite of horrific human rights abuses against the Indigenous Batwa community.
Minority Rights Group International (MRG) has documented an intensely violent campaign to expel Batwa people from their ancestral lands, led by park authorities and the army. Between 2019 and 2021 at least 20 people were killed, fifteen women were raped and hundreds of people evicted.
