Digital rights organizations have condemned social media platforms for censoring posts about potential human rights abuses in Israel-Palestine. According to Access Now, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and Facebook have been deleting posts and hiding hashtags featuring ‘Al Aqsa’ – the mosque that was attacked by grenades and lethal teargas by the Israeli Defense Forces on 10 May 2021, leaving 300 people injured.
Other words such as ‘resistance’ and ‘martyr’ have been flagged by Facebook for ‘incitement to violence’ under its community guidelines.
