A Facebook group is harnessing the generosity of strangers to save lives and put separated families back in touch.
Phone Credit for Refugees and Displaced People is the only organization of its kind. Launched on 1 February, it rallies European citizens to donate credit to those stuck in Europe’s refugee camps. In its first four months, 14,000 Facebook members donated $92,000-worth of monthly top-ups, helping 2,800 people to maintain contact with family, communicate via translation apps and use GPS to guide their journeys.
