Yolanda Alcino is stateless. She has no health insurance and cannot report domestic abuse or register the birth of her children. She is one of an estimated 10-12 million people around the world who are not recognized as citizens of any country.
With limited or non-existent rights to education, employment, voting or movement between countries, the stateless can end up languishing in immigration detention centres for years on end.
