Steve, a model at Kibera Fashion week, wearing an outfit from local designer Hellen Wanjiru, poses while everyday life unfolds around them on the streets of the Nairobi slum. The photo was taken by Anwar Sadat Swaka, a documentary photographer and visual storyteller from the Kenyan capital. ‘My work focuses on reshaping narratives around communities like Kibera, one of the largest informal settlements in Africa, highlighting resilience, creativity and humanity,’ he said. ‘I hope to use my work to amplify local voices, foster understanding across cultures, and contribute to platforms where communities tell their own stories.’
