India is experiencing a lot of excitement over its youth dividend – with over 65 per cent of the population under the age of 35, there’s thought to be great potential for economic growth as the working-age population balloons. But are we overlooking another equally important but untapped demographic? Women.
By 2036 the female population of India is expected to reach 743 million.1 But their contribution to the GDP has remained below the global average at 18 per cent.2 And there’s a good reason for this. Only about 37 per cent of Indian women work in the formal workforce.3
