Subhran Karmakar captured this remarkable shot in his native Kolkota, India. It was taken in the city’s Chinatown, where Karmarkar’s interest was piqued by seeing a boy repeatedly diving into the water. The photographer has been documenting the streets of his city since 2018, as well as working as a graphic designer. ‘I love making candid photographs,’ he said. ‘I don’t stage scenes and try not to interact much with my subjects. If someone asks, I explain what I do. I prefer to blend in with the people and observe the world with a sense of childlike curiosity.’
