In Noida, a satellite city of New Delhi, a sports stadium is playing host to a cafe with a difference. Sheroes, which was established in May 2022, is completely run by acid attack survivors who do everything from cooking and serving to adding up bills.
Set up by the Chhanv Foundation, with assistance from the local authority, the Sheroes mission is to empower those affected by this heinous violence and raise awareness of its impacts on society. India records between 250 and 300 acid attacks each year, but it is believed the actual number is higher – as many incidents go unreported.
