Israel ramped up its violent crackdown on Palestinians in the West Bank during 2022, including attacks on civilians and collective punishment of communities.
In October, the UN reported that it had been the ‘deadliest year’ for Palestinians in the West Bank since they began keeping consistent records in 2005. In November, Mondoweiss reported that 199 Palestinians – 148 from the West Bank – had been killed by Israeli forces in 2022. One of those was Fulla Masalma, shot dead by Israeli soldiers the day before her sixteenth birthday while travelling in a car through the neighbourhood of Betunia, west of Ramallah.
