After Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won Brazil’s presidential election in October 2022, supporters of the defeated Jair Bolsonaro blocked hundreds of roads and demanded a military coup. But in the favelas, in the Amazon, in the poorest neighbourhoods of the country, social justice activists began to anticipate a new era.
