The streets of al-Jabal are eerily quiet for a township that holds approximately 150 Bedouin families. Built on the banks of a municipal garbage dump, it is a relocation site built by the Israeli Civil Administration (ICA).
Since the 1990s, the ICA has subjected semi-nomadic Bedouin communities living in rural areas of the West Bank to home demolitions and evictions, and then relocated families to centralized, purpose-built urban townships like this one.
