The battle for global gender equality is hard fought, but in many parts of the world – away from the gaze of the media – encouraging progress is made which gets little attention.
One example is the remarkable change which has taken place among the Borana people in Ethiopia. This pastoralist community has long had a patriarchal culture under which women suffered with little power or protection.
