Technology has long been an expression of dominant cultural and economic dynamics; which tools are invested in, developed and widely implemented reflects the priorities and ideologies of those in power. The rapid expansion of the artificial intelligence industry, projected to hit nearly $50 trillion in value in the 2030s, is no exception.1

Seven companies dominate: Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Tesla, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and Nvidia. This small group ‘endlessly pass around the same $100 billion IOU’, as writer Cory Doctorow puts it, sustaining this obscene value inflation off the back of an orchestrated ‘AI boom’.2
