This shot of a labourer piling bricks high on his head was captured by Bangladeshi photographer Kazi Md Jahirul Islam. For six months of the dry season the 60-year-old worker pictured earns just 500 Taka – less than $4.50 – a day for working from dawn till dusk at the brickfield in the southeastern Noakhali district, where it is so dusty it is hard to breathe properly without a mask. The rest of the year he is unemployed, and has to relocate with his family.
Jahirul, who has won a number of awards for his photography, says he likes to capture raw emotion and passion while telling the stories of the neglected people he meets on the street: ‘I try to capture life inside the images’.
