Loggers’ deaths highlight government failures to protect isolated Indigenous lands, reports Stephanie Boyd.
The international media was quick to sensationalize a recent conflict in the southern Amazon: ‘Reclusive tribe armed with bows and arrows kills loggers,’ led the headline for CBS News.
Two loggers died and another was injured in the incident on 29 August, and at the time of publication two more remain missing. But what happened to the Indigenous community involved, the Mashco Piro, who live in voluntary isolation? And who was behind the attacks?
