The UK’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe – owner of chemical company Ineos – has been funnelling cash from his ‘charitable’ foundation to a luxury ski lodge at an Alpine resort.
The clubhouse – set up with the ostensible aim to teach underprivileged children to ski – was found by The Guardian to have an eye-wateringly high barrier to entry. A $27,000 joining fee, with a $6,500 annual retainer, to be exact. Not to mention the member nominations needed to join Ratcliffe and co on the slopes. After being contacted by the paper’s reporter, the club affirmed that it was devoted exclusively to serving its private members.
