When Assam was hit by a deluge of flooding in June, Trisha Moni Deka had to use a banana-trunk raft to flee from her village in the Darrang district, leaving her belongings behind. After staying in a relief camp for nearly two weeks, the 23-year-old returned to the Milanpur hamlet and the skeletal remains of her bamboo hut.
‘I have lost everything,’ she explained, almost breaking down. ‘I have never seen before such disastrous floods in our village.’
