Taken from his series ‘Knots’, Tehran-based photographer Jalal Sepehr offers an artistic comment on life in Yazd, an ancient desert city in Iran also designated as a World Heritage Site. Much of its economy is dependent on the making of classically ornate Persian carpets. Sepehr relates the image to a typical local anxiety. ‘I have used the carpet as a symbol of ancient and traditional life. Iranians don’t know if they should keep the carpet or let it go,’ he explains.
Jalal Sepehr was born in 1969. He first took up the camera as an amateur in 1995, later choosing industrial photography as his career. He has participated in some 70 photography festivals and competitions in and outside of Iran.
