When Yilman Altun, who had been writhing in pain, lost consciousness at Pristina International Airport while waiting for his return flight to Turkey in November 2008, it set in motion a chain of events that made legal history.
Altun was an unlikely visitor to the newest country in Europe. Kosovo had declared its independence from Serbia just nine months earlier and was not exactly a happening tourist destination. The 23-year-old Turk, who was in desperate need of money, was no tourist.
