Jeff Wilson is a typical academic – except for one thing: by the end of January this Texas professor will have made a rubbish dumpster his home. ‘Professor Dumpster’ will spend 12 months in the three-metre-square dumpster, exploring the hypothesis that people might be happier living with less. ‘Frankly, I was just a little bit tired of having all this stuff,’ he says.
The idea arose two years ago in Jeff’s local Starbucks – a potent symbol of consumerist America. After selling his possessions for a dollar a piece, Jeff left his flat with just one suitcase in preparation for his unusual move.
