In 2006 a ship named Probo Koala, chartered by the company, carried waste to Côte d’Ivoire. The discharge of this waste resulted in a human and environmental disaster which left over 100,000 people seeking medical assistance.
The new report, ‘The Toxic Truth’, concludes a three-year investigation which also argues that successive governments should have stopped the tanker. Probo Koala originally went to the Netherlands, but it was decided that the price quoted to have the waste treated was too high and it moved on.
