Electricity de France (EDF) has suffered a humiliating climb-down after public pressure forced it to drop a $7.5-million lawsuit against climate the campaign group No Dash for Gas.
The global energy giant imposed what can be seen as a SLAP – a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation – against the group for shutting down one of its gas-fired power stations. EDF said the 21 activists and ‘persons unknown’ had delayed the commissioning of the power station, in West Burton, England, and incurred extra security and contractor costs.
