Conservationist turned activist Charlie Gardner speaks to Amy Hall about why he risks arrest for the climate, and why we need to change how we talk about climate action.
‘Why on earth are a bunch of scientists prepared to block a street with chains around their necks if this isn’t really serious?’ This was the question conservationist Charlie Gardner was hoping to provoke in the minds of the public as he was arrested for a second time.
It was November 2021, during the COP 26 UN climate summit in Glasgow. Gardner was detained alongside 20 others from the activist group Scientist Rebellion as they blocked the King George V Bridge in the city centre.
