In a trial that human rights groups have called a ‘sham’, 10 protesters charged with treason for their role in Nigeria’s ‘bad governance’ demonstrations now face a possible death sentence. In August, nearly 700 people were arrested during the 10-day national protests against poverty and corruption.
The families of the victims of the 2004 Tak Bai killings, in which 78 protestors suffocated after being forced into overcrowded military trucks, may finally see justice.
