On 11 September, bailiffs in balaclavas violently evicted a squat occupied by housing activists in Dublin city centre. They arrived in a British-registered van listed as untaxed since August 2014 and enforced the eviction order, while Public Order Unit police stood guard outside and stopped members of the public from intervening.
By the time the bailiffs had cleared the building, several occupiers were injured and were later hospitalized. Amnesty International and Irish Council for Civil Liberties criticized the action, which was captured in a photograph that went viral.
