For India, 16 December 2012 was such a moment with the rape and murder of Jyoti Singh in New Delhi. She was a young woman who had come from her village to the big city, full of ambition. She was a physiotherapy intern, and one evening she went to the cinema with a male friend. An ordinary evening out, which ended with her being gang raped, eviscerated and fatally injured.
