The forcible expulsion of the Mapuche from land that now turns a profit for Benetton dates back to colonization, write Leny Olivera and Sian Cowman.
On 10 January, over 200 Argentinean police armed with rubber bullets and riot gear assaulted members of the Mapuche indigenous community Pu Lof Resistencia Cushamen.
‘We didn’t have the strength [to resist],’ says Eilin, a Mapuche woman. ‘We were only few. Many times they have tried to expel us… but they are not going to get us out from here.’
