Campaigners hope to stop CETA before it goes through the European Parliament, Amy Hall writes.
As campaigners breathe a tentative sigh of relief that sweeping EU-US free-trade deal the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Parliament (TTIP) may be defeated, there are strong warnings about its ‘little brother’, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
The EU and Canada have been negotiating CETA since 2009. The agreement is likely to include the Investment Court System, which would increase powers of corporations to sue governments over environmental or labour regulation.
