Over 500 people have died on the streets of major cities in clashes between anti-government protesters and Ethiopian security forces – the most violent since disputed elections in 2005.
The state’s use of lethal force has provoked an outcry from international human rights organizations. Amnesty International says the government may be guilty of ‘extrajudicial killings’ after the death of at least 30 people during a day of protests in the Amhara region’s capital, Bahir Dar, in August.
