Labour reforms in France have brought protests, strikes, blockades and the birth of a new social movement – Nuit debout.
Demonstrators oppose the government’s attempts to ‘add flexibility’ to the job market via the ‘Loi Travail’ – dubbed ‘El Khomri’, after the Labour minister. The law would make it easier to fire people and change their working hours. Those against say it’s another example of those with power looking after their own interests while life becomes more precarious for ordinary people.
