Soon-to-be former Prime Minister David Cameron* said recently in an interview with that tribune of the people, the Institute of Directors magazine, that children must learn to ‘turn over a profit’. Not content merely to introduce profiteering into the organization and running of schools, he now wants to embed it at the heart of the learning process. What a great idea! I mean, we all want our kids, when asked what they want to be when they grow up, to answer ‘profitable’, don’t we? For the record, when I asked my daughter what she wanted to be, she said ‘a squirrel’.
Cameron also said: ‘Children need to know how money is made.’ I’m guessing my answer of ‘conjured out of thin air by banks as loans for us to pay interest on’ would not get me a gold star.
