As the activities of the big banks engender growing disapproval, the Move your Money campaign is gaining international momentum.
Originating in the US, the campaign claims that four million accounts have been moved from the nation’s biggest banks since the call went out in November 2010. When its YouTube video (which intersperses clips from It’s a Wonderful Life with senate committee hearings on the financial crisis) went viral, thousands immediately pledged to take action. Campaigners predict a further 12 million people in the US will move their accounts within the next two years.
