Hers is not a household name, perhaps because for over 30 years Longinotto has been making films largely about women who resist, or have survived, exploitation and violence.
Dreamcatcher, her 20th as a director, unobtrusively follows a charismatic Chicago woman, who, sold into prostitution as a teenager, left behind 25 years of beatings, drug addiction and working the streets, and set up The Dreamcatcher Foundation to show sex workers that they have other options.
