Who or what inspires you?
I’m inspired by two things enormously: books and travelling. I grew up reading, but also travelling. Moving is something I was born into, but [later] I chose this nomadic life. I’m very attached to Istanbul, but I can’t stay there all the time. It’s suffocating, as much as I love it. I want to be a Londoner and an Istanbulite. I believe it’s possible to have both. I write in English and Turkish. I commute between the languages the way I commute between cities.
