Brandan’s supporting line about this cartoon was: ‘Despite best efforts, Africa remains as exposed as ever even as the developed world ratchets up its response to the inevitable spread of the deadly Ebola virus.’ Brandan is based in Cape Town, where he studied fine art and was first encouraged to pursue his cartooning. He won a weekly slot in the Cape Argus from 1997 then spent two years in the US working on the Atlanta Journal Constitution before returning to South Africa in 2002 to become the daily cartoonist for Business Day. He says: ‘We have got to make people think and reflect on how politics and politicians affect their daily lives and our world.’
