For people like me who have been working on climate change ever since the magnitude of the threat first became clear more than a quarter of a century ago, these are momentous times. The energy markets are for the first time showing signs of change of the kind that can lead to the deep cuts in greenhouse-gas emissions needed to win the war on global warming.
These signs are not to be overstated. There is much that can yet go wrong. But it is clear that potential total system change is on the cards for the first time.
