After four months inside, seemingly for assaulting her former partner, Molly leaves jail expecting to reunite with her kids who are in care. But it’s not so simple. She’s lost her home and spends her first night of freedom sleeping in a park. Having no fixed abode disqualifies her from having her children back. As she’s not living with dependents, she doesn’t qualify to be rehoused with them. And having been jailed, she’s deemed to have made herself ‘intentionally homeless’ – so she wouldn’t qualify anyhow. Boom, boom.
Molly then, and subsequently, goes ballistic. It only invites further official scrutiny of her suitability to care for her children.
