The days of unchecked greenwashing of products in Europe are numbered. Under new rules, companies will only be able to slap on ‘eco’, ‘natural’, and ‘carbon neutral’ labels after proving their green credentials through an official certification scheme. The directive was finally passed by the European Parliament in January, giving member states two years to incorporate the rules into national laws.
Israel can no longer count on unwavering military backing from its allies after several countries reduced or withdrew support. Following the ICJ’s interim ruling that Israel is plausibly committing genocide in Gaza, Japanese investment giant Itochu Corporation announced it was ending its collaboration with Israeli arms firm Elbit Systems. In Holland, a court barred the export of fighter jet parts, while Spain suspended weapons exports to Israel completely. The Irish senate meanwhile passed a motion calling for sanctions, and the EU agreed in March to sanction violent Israeli settlers illegally occupying the West Bank.
