The controversial expansion of Morocco's surf tourism displaces coastal communities. By Allegra Diamond & Lisa Bartelmus.
In January, anonymous officials informed residents of the old town of Tasblast in southern Moroccan that they had 24 hours to pack and leave before their houses were demolished.
Established in the 1980s by fishers, Tasblast was later discovered by surfers. Word of its superb waves spread and the tourist economy boomed, with roughly 100,000 frequenting its numerous guesthouses and businesses each year.
