A friend has invited me to her Hindu wedding. I’m chuffed – I’ve always wanted to wear a sari. But my sister is accusing me of ‘cultural appropriation’ if I do so. I’ve asked my friend, who is getting married, and she said I should wear what I like. But she frowned and looked a bit uncomfortable when she said it. My sister says that saris don’t look good on fat blonde women. What should I do?
And while I’m at it, should I stop being a Friend of the British Museum and Pitt Rivers in Oxford until they return their stolen artefacts? My sister (bless her) says I should. But I consider myself a citizen of the world, an ‘internationalist’, you could say. I love multiculturalism and cultural variety and it’s great to see all these things together in one place without having to trash the planet with air miles. Some guidance please!
