Moscow has opened the first criminal case for an alleged violation of its widely criticised ‘Foreign Spy’ law against civil-society activist Valentina Cherevatenko.
While hundreds of humanitarians and human rights defenders have been targeted and defamed by the Foreign Agent law, passed in 2012, Cherevatenko is the first to receive notice of criminal proceedings launched against her.
